SBA CYBER SUMMIT 2023
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will host a free, virtual National Cyber Summit October 25 and November 1 from 10 am–3 pm MDT. Registration for the event is open to all!
This second annual cybersecurity forum will help introduce American small businesses to tools, tips, and resources to bolster their cybersecurity infrastructure and explore new trends and challenges entrepreneurs are increasingly facing.
"Digital tools represent some of the most exciting revenue growth opportunities for American small businesses – from the $5.2 trillion global e-commerce marketplace to cutting-edge AI and other digital tools," said SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman. "As small businesses increasingly rely on technology to start and grow their businesses, our SBA Cyber Summit and our work modernizing the SBA will help more entrepreneurs make the digital pivot safely by leveraging SBA resources and private sector solutions to defend their businesses, their customers, and their livelihoods from the ever-evolving threats from cyber criminals."
About the SBA's 2nd Annual Small Business Cyber Summit
The summit will feature various speakers, including SBA Administrator Guzman, SBA Associate Administrator Madrid, SBA Resource Partners, Small Business Development Centers, the SBA Small Business Digital Alliance, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), FBI, business chambers, state government partners, experts from the public/private sectors, major technology platforms, and award-winning business coaches.
Comprised of digestible and compact segments, attendees will have the opportunity to network and access practical tips, problem-solving strategies, industry trends, threat avoidance, and small business testimonials to learn how to help small business owners defend themselves against cyber-attacks.
Cyberattacks are a growing threat to small businesses and the U.S. economy. According to the FBI's Internet Crime Report, the cost of cybercrimes against the small business community reached $3.31 billion in 2022.
Small businesses are attractive targets because they have information that cybercriminals want, and they typically lack the security infrastructure of larger businesses.
Surveys have shown that a majority of small business owners feel their businesses are vulnerable to a cyberattack. Yet many businesses cannot afford professional IT solutions, have limited time to devote to cybersecurity, or do not know where to begin. The 2nd Annual SBA Cyber Summit will address these formidable challenges with turnkey solutions.

Why cybersecurity matters!
According to Inc.com - 60% of Small Businesses will go out of business within six months of a cyber-attack. Small businesses are especially attractive targets because they have information that cybercriminals (bad actors, foreign governments, etc.) want, and they typically lack the security infrastructure of larger businesses to adequately protect their digital systems for storing, accessing, and disseminating data and information.
Getting Ready for the Next Cyber Attack
If someone said your business would be robbed in the next 30 days, would you take action? Absolutely.
But small businesses underestimate the costs of cybercrime. Cybercrimes cost businesses between $15,000 to $25,000.
You're in luck, though. Some of the most important things you can do costs you little or nothing. We're going to explore those little things that can save you big bucks.

Understanding Indicators of Compromise (IR108)
CISA is proud to offer the cybersecurity awareness webinar, Understanding Indicators of Compromise (IR108), on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 11 a.m. to noon EDT. We are excited to share this information with stakeholders across the federal enterprise and nationally.
This webinar is intended for a non-technical audience and beginning incident responders.
Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) are the digital and informational "clues" that incident responders use to detect, diagnose, halt, and remediate malicious activity in their networks. This webinar provides an overview of IOCs for incident responders and those who work with them, introduces example scenarios and how IOCs can be used to trace activity and piece together a timeline of the threat, and discusses tools and frameworks to help incident responders use IOCs to detect, analyze, respond to, and report cyber threat activity.
This webinar includes the following information and more:
-
Importance of IOCs: Define IOCs and why tracking, investigating, and reporting IOCs are crucial to enterprise cybersecurity. Students will understand how IOCs are used for threat hunting and incident response, different types of indicators, and how to collect different categories of IOCs.
-
Frameworks: Students will learn about the Cyber Kill Chain® and MITRE ATT&CK® Framework and how they support the analysis of IOCs.
-
Knowledge checks: The course provides knowledge checks throughout the presentation to reinforce key concepts and takeaways.
